গল্পটা বেসরকারি প্রতিষ্ঠান গ্রিন ইউনিভার্সিটি শিক্ষার্থীদের। ক্রীড়ামোদী এ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ছাত্র-ছাত্রীদের কাছে মাঠটি এখন অনুভূতির আরেক নাম। খেলাধুলা তো বটেই; সকালের হাঁটাচলা, বিকেলের আড্ডাটাও যেন এই মাঠের সবুজ ঘাসে। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের স্পোর্টস ক্লাবের সাবেক সভাপতি বশির উদ্দিন জানান, ‘বেসরকারি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় মানেই খেলার মাঠ না থাকার দুঃখ। আমাদেরও ছিল। কখনও এমন হয়েছে, টুর্নামেন্টে খেলতে যাব, অথচ একদিনের প্র্যাকটিস নেই। আবার যে মাঠটি ভাড়া নেয়া ছিল, সেখানেও কাঁদা-মাটির নানা সমস্যা ছিল। এ নিয়ে প্রশাসনের কাছে নানা আবদার ছিল। অনেক সময় পূরণ হত, অনেক সময় হত না। এসব কারণেই সদ্য বানানো মাঠটি আমাদের কাছে অনুভূতির নাম।’
খোঁজ নিয়ে দেখা যাচ্ছে, রাজধানী ঢাকা থেকে হারিয়ে যেতে বসেছে খেলার মাঠ। বেসরকারি শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠান তো বটেই, অনেক সরকারি বিদ্যাপীঠেও খেলার মাঠ খুঁজে পাওয়া এখন ভার। মূলত: শিক্ষার্থীদের এমন দুর্ভোগের কথা মাথায় রেখেই আইসিসি’র মানদণ্ডে ক্রিকেট মাঠ তৈরি করেছে গ্রিন ইউনিভার্সিটি অব বাংলাদেশ। বেসরকারি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ইতিহাসে সবচেয়ে বড় এ খেলার মাঠ প্রস্তুতকরণের কাজ সম্প্রতি পুরোপুরি শেষ হয়েছে। কিছুদিনের মধ্যেই মাঠটিতে ‘বঙ্গবন্ধু আন্তঃবিশ্ববিদ্যালয় স্পোর্টস চ্যাম্পস ২০২০-এর ক্রিকেট টুর্নামেন্ট গড়াচ্ছে। মুজিবর্ষকে কেন্দ্র করে আয়োজিত এ খেলায় বিভিন্ন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের হাজারো ক্রিকেট পাগল শিক্ষার্থী ঢল নামবে। এরপরই অনুষ্ঠিত হবে আরেকটি আন্তঃবিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ও আন্তঃকলেজ টুর্নামেন্ট।
সংশ্লিষ্টরা জানান, আন্তর্জাতিক স্টেডিয়ামগুলোর সঙ্গে সামাঞ্জস্য রেখে গ্রিন ইউনিভার্সিটির এই মাঠের ব্যাসার্ধ ৭০ থেকে ৮০ মিটারের মধ্যে রাখা হয়েছে। যদিও পুরো মাঠের আয়তন আরও বেশি। পিচ করা হয়েছে সম্পূর্ণ আন্তর্জাতিক মান বজায় রেখে। কর্তৃপক্ষের বক্তব্য, আন্তর্জাতিক মানের স্টেডিয়ামগুলোর পিচে যেসব উপকরণ ব্যবহার করা হয়ে থাকে, এখানেও তাই করা হয়েছে।
নকশা অনুযায়ী মাঠটির দৈর্ঘ্য ৫০০ ফুট, প্রস্থ ৪০০ ফুট। চারপাশে রয়েছে ঘাসে মোড়ানো দর্শক গ্যালারি। এর মধ্যে দক্ষিণ পাশে গ্যালারিতে থাকছে খেলোয়ারদের বসার স্থান ও অন্যান্য অনুষঙ্গ। অন্যদিকে মাঠের দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিম কর্নারে প্রস্তুত হচ্ছে টেনিস, বাস্কেট বল, ভলিবল ও ব্যাডমিন্টন খেলার জন্য পৃথক কোর্ট। দিনের পাশাপাশি রাতে খেলার ব্যবস্থাও রাখা হচ্ছে মাঠটিতে। এজন্য থাকবে পর্যাপ্ত আলোর ব্যবস্থা।
বিশ^বিদ্যালয়ের নাম ‘গ্রিন’ শব্দের স্বার্থকতা খুঁজতে পুরো মাঠের চারপাশ সাজানো হয়েছে সিজিয়াম, ফাইয়াজ বেনজামিন, পাম গাছ এবং মিনি টগরসহ দেশি-বিদেশি নানা গাছ দিয়ে। মাঠ দেখভালের দায়িত্বে থাকা বিকেএসপি কিউরেটর ও সংশ্লিষ্টরা জানান, মূলত দীর্ঘমেয়াদী পরিকল্পনা নিয়ে মাঠটি তৈরি করা হয়েছে। পর্যায়ক্রমে এর পরিধি, সৌন্দর্য ও অন্যান্য সুবিধাও বাড়ানো হবে। রূপ দেয়া হবে মিনি স্টেডিয়ামে।
